A screen based interface for children of age group 8-12 years, to enable them to make animation movies starting from the scratch, which encourages creative narration in them and enhances their narrative capabilities.
Other sofware were analysed to benchmark design considerations and best practices for children. Our study included OLPC's Sugar OS, Turtle Art, Tux Paint and Farmville. We also conducted literature study and visited websites for children to get and understanding of the visual language prevalent in media for children.
To get a hands on experience of children's thinking process, we conducted activities involving narration, drawing and poetry in a kindergarten. This gave us insight into the formative cognitive and thinking proceses in kids.
After coming up with the concept behind our kit, we proceeded with developing an interface which would underline the aspects of simplicity, convenience and clarity which we expected form the project. Extreme care was given to minute details in terms of placement, arrangement, colour, proximity, prominence and grouping of each visual element.
We finallly settled upon an interface which was playful and bright and did not compromise on the functional needs. A prototype was implemented in flash which was able to showcase the basic movie making features.
