Chaos is the annual cultural festival of IIM Ahmedabad. I was a part of a team of 5 which handled all of the design work of Chaos, my specific project being the website.
For the website, I started with building some scenarios for the website on the given theme of "70 mm", like a poster wall, the facade of a theater, inside of a theater, interplay of photographic reels etc. The aim at this stage was to come up with something very distinct and unique from the other cultural festivals, which provides a strong identity to the festival.
The concept selected was the inside of a theater. The unique part in this concept was that we envisioned a complete environment inside the theater with different areas depicting different sections of the website. Detailed scenarios were built consecutively.
To provide our concept the maximum support, we decided to implement the website with a 3D environment. It was a tough call, which left us with only Flash CS4 as a possible implementation tool. As expected, it was tough starting out. Nither of us had any idea how to implement a 3D website, with only me having a previous development experience on Flash. Slowly things started to pick up.
With the basic structure finally working, we proceeded with putting the environment graphics in place and the functionalities involved in the individual pages. All the while, optimization was given a very high priority.
Work went right down to the time we left IIM A. The final site weighed a mere 201KB for the main SWF, and had all the content loading dynamically by request at run-time through XML, completely modular and easy to manage for the Chaos team.
I also participated in the ideation stages for logo and promotional video design. The project was very well reiceved by the audience at Chaos '10.
